Protecting Public Services

We are pleased to report that significant savings are now coming to Worthing residents as a result of our ground breaking partnership working arrangements between Worthing Borough Council and Adur District Council.

  • The 2009 draft budget identifies savings of £531,700 as Worthing Council’s share of the cost reductions;
  • This sum equates to 6.8% saved on council tax;
  • Without these savings, the council would need to consider savage cuts in frontline public services;
  • The process is ongoing and we expect to identify further savings in the next 2-3 years;
  • We believe that, where possible, savings should be made in Town Hall and Civic Centre running costs and NOT public services;
  • Another positive result of this work is improved service levels being planned in areas such as street cleansing.
